From Tragedy to Triumph

In the face of unimaginable loss, community members in Buffalo, NY, supported each other in unity. The 5/14 Living Memorial & Healing Center is where that story continues.

HISTORICAL RECORD

May 14, 2022

In a matter of minutes, a Saturday afternoon in May became one of the darkest days in the City of Buffalo’s history. Innocent community members, ages 32 to 89, were killed in a targeted act of racial hatred, three others were wounded, and an entire region was shaken by domestic terrorism.

First emergency call placed from Tops Grocery Store on Jefferson Avenue.

2:32 PM

Buffalo Police Department arrives on the scene.

2:36 PM

Racist domestic terrorist was detained after killing 10, injuring three others, and causing lasting harm to survivors, families, and the broader Buffalo community.
